Refund and Returns Policy

Sponsor-A-Can is a Washington State 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation (EIN: 93-1624890). This policy explains how we handle refund and return requests for donations, merchandise, and any other transactions made through www.sponsor-a-can.org.
Donations
We sincerely appreciate every contribution made to Sponsor-A-Can. Donations directly fund our field operations, sanitation work, and community programs in Kitsap County. Because donations are charitable gifts — not purchases of goods or services — our refund policy for donations is more limited than for retail transactions.
When we will refund a donation
We will issue a full refund in the following circumstances:
- Duplicate or accidental transactions — if you submitted the same donation more than once in error
- Incorrect amount — if you intended to donate a different amount and contact us within 14 days of the transaction
- Unauthorized charges — if the donation was made without your authorization (please also notify your bank or card issuer immediately)
- Processing errors — if a technical issue caused an incorrect charge
How to request a donation refund
Contact us within 30 days of the transaction at matthew@sponsor-a-can.org with the following information:
- Your name and email address used at the time of the donation
- The approximate date and amount of the donation
- The reason you are requesting a refund
We will review your request and respond within 5 business days. If approved, refunds are processed through our payment processor (Square) and typically appear on your statement within 5–10 business days, depending on your card issuer.
Important note on tax deductibility
If you refund a donation that you have already claimed as a tax deduction on a filed return, you may need to amend that return with the IRS. We recommend consulting a tax professional. Sponsor-A-Can cannot provide tax advice.
Recurring donations
If you set up a recurring donation and wish to cancel future contributions, contact us at matthew@sponsor-a-can.org. We will cancel the recurring schedule immediately. Donations already processed before cancellation are subject to the standard donation refund policy above.
Merchandise (when available)
Sponsor-A-Can does not currently sell merchandise through this website. When we begin offering products — such as branded apparel, stickers, or items produced through our recycling program — the following return policy will apply unless updated:
Return window
You may request a return or exchange within 30 days of delivery. To be eligible:
- The item must be unused and in the same condition you received it
- The item must be in its original packaging
- You must provide proof of purchase
Non-returnable items
The following items cannot be returned:
- Gift cards
- Digital products and downloadable files
- Items marked as final sale
- Items damaged due to misuse
Refunds
Once we receive and inspect your return, we will notify you of approval or rejection by email. Approved refunds are processed to your original payment method, typically within 5–10 business days.
Exchanges
We exchange items that are defective or damaged on arrival. To request an exchange, email matthew@sponsor-a-can.org with photos of the issue and your order details.
Shipping for returns
Customers are responsible for return shipping costs unless the item was defective or shipped in error. We recommend using a trackable shipping service for items of significant value. Sponsor-A-Can cannot guarantee receipt of returned items.
SAC Forms Plugin Licenses
The SAC Forms WordPress plugin is licensed separately from our main donation activities. Plugin license refund terms are governed by the license agreement provided at the time of purchase. Generally, we offer a 14-day refund window on plugin licenses, provided the license has not been actively used to receive paid updates. Contact matthew@sponsor-a-can.org for plugin-specific refund inquiries.
Disputes
If you have an unresolved concern about a transaction, please contact us first. We aim to resolve all questions and concerns fairly. If you have already initiated a dispute with your card issuer, please let us know so we can coordinate the resolution.
